[101] But here, Cunda, a Teacher has arisen in the world who is an Arahant, a Perfectly Enlightened One (arahaṃ sammāsambuddho); and the Dhamma is well proclaimed, well set forth, emancipating, conducing to peace, made known by one who is perfectly enlightened; and his disciples have been made to understand the meaning of the true Dhamma (saddhamma); and the entirely complete spiritual life (brahmacariya) has been disclosed to them, made plain, made with all its sayings collected, furnished with its demonstrable basis, and well proclaimed as far as gods and humans; and then the passing away of their Teacher comes to be. Cunda, such a teacher, having passed away, is no cause of remorse to the disciples.
Why is that? [They reflect:] "A Teacher arose in the world, an Arahant, a Perfectly Enlightened One; and the Dhamma was well proclaimed, well set forth, emancipating, conducing to peace, made known by one who is perfectly enlightened; and we were made to understand the meaning of the true Dhamma; and the entirely complete spiritual life was disclosed to us, made plain, made with all its sayings collected, furnished with its demonstrable basis, and well proclaimed as far as gods and humans; and then the passing away of the Teacher came to be." Cunda, such a Teacher, having passed away, is no cause of remorse to the disciples.
