[122] "Cunda, it is possible that wanderers of other sects might speak thus: 'But why, friend, has this not been declared by the ascetic Gotama?' Cunda, wanderers of other sects who speak thus should be told: 'Friend, because this is not connected with the goal, not connected with the Dhamma, and does not pertain to the fundamentals of the holy life (brahmacariya); it does not lead to disillusionment, to dispassion, to cessation (nirodha), to peace, to direct knowledge, to awakening, to Nibbāna. Therefore it has not been declared by the Blessed One.'
"Cunda, it is possible that wanderers of other sects might speak thus: 'But what, friend, has been declared by the ascetic Gotama?' Cunda, wanderers of other sects who speak thus should be told: '"This is suffering (dukkha)"—this, friend, has been declared by the Blessed One. "This is the origin (samudaya) of suffering"—this, friend, has been declared by the Blessed One. "This is the cessation of suffering"—this, friend, has been declared by the Blessed One. "This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering"—this, friend, has been declared by the Blessed One.'
