[123] "Cunda, those standpoints of views (diṭṭhinissaya) connected with the past (pubbantasahagata) — those too have been declared by me in the way they should be declared and in the way they should not be declared; why, then, should I declare them there to those of other sects (aññatitthiyā)? Cunda, those standpoints of views connected with the future (aparantasahagata) — those too have been declared by me to you in the way they should be declared and in the way they should not be declared; why, then, should I not declare them to you there? "And what, Cunda, are those standpoints of views connected with the past that have been declared by me in the way they should be declared and in the way they should not be declared? There are, Cunda, some ascetics and brahmins who hold such a doctrine, such a view: 'The self and the world are eternal — this alone is true; all else is vain.' But there are, Cunda, some ascetics and brahmins who hold such a doctrine, such a view: 'The self and the world are not eternal' … (abridged) … 'The self and the world are both eternal and not eternal' … 'The self and the world are neither eternal nor not eternal' … 'The self and the world are made by oneself' … 'The self and the world are made by another' … 'The self and the world are made both by oneself and by another' … 'The self and the world, being neither made by oneself nor made by another, have arisen by chance — this alone is true; all else is vain.' 'Pleasure and pain are eternal' … 'Pleasure and pain are not eternal' … 'Pleasure and pain are both eternal and not eternal' … 'Pleasure and pain are neither eternal nor not eternal' … 'Pleasure and pain are made by oneself' … 'Pleasure and pain are made by another' … 'Pleasure and pain are made both by oneself and by another' … 'Pleasure and pain, being neither made by oneself nor made by another, have arisen by chance — this alone is true; all else is vain.'"
