[182] Householder's son, there are these six drawbacks in habitual devotion to gambling, a basis for heedlessness: the winner breeds enmity; the loser mourns his lost wealth; there is loss of wealth here and now; the word of one who goes into the assembly carries no weight; he is despised by friends and companions; he is not sought after by those arranging marriage, for they think, "This person is a gambling rogue—he is not able to support a wife." These, householder's son, are the six drawbacks in habitual devotion to gambling, a basis for heedlessness.
