[202] Householder's son, friends and colleagues (mittāmaccā), as the northern quarter, should be served by a clansman (kulaputta) in five ways: by giving, by kindly speech, by beneficial conduct, by impartiality, and by not deceiving them.
Householder's son, friends and colleagues, as the northern quarter, being served by a clansman in these five ways, show sympathy to the clansman in five ways: they guard him when he is negligent; they guard his property when he is negligent; they are a refuge for him when he is frightened; they do not abandon him in misfortunes; and they honor even his descendants.
