[395] What three things are hard to comprehend? Three elements (dhātu) of escape (nissāraṇīyā dhātuyo): this is the escape from sensual pleasures, namely, renunciation (nekkhamma); this is the escape from forms, namely, the formless; and whatever has come to be, is conditioned, and is dependently arisen — cessation (nirodha) is the escape from that. These are the three things hard to comprehend.
