[408] What four dhammas should be directly known? The four noble truths (ariyasacca): the noble truth of suffering (dukkha), the noble truth of the origin (samudaya) of suffering, the noble truth of the cessation (nirodha) of suffering, and the noble truth of the way of practice (paṭipadā) leading to the cessation of suffering. These four dhammas should be directly known.
