[46] Bhikkhus, there will come a time when these people will have children whose lifespan is ten years. Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, girls of five years will be fit to be given in marriage. Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, these flavors will disappear, namely: ghee, fresh butter, oil, honey, molasses, and salt. Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, kudrūsaka grain will be the finest food. Just as, bhikkhus, at present boiled sāli-rice with meat is the finest food, so too, bhikkhus, among humans with a ten-year lifespan kudrūsaka grain will be the finest food. Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, the ten courses of wholesome action (kusalakammapathā) will disappear altogether, and the ten courses of unwholesome action will blaze forth exceedingly. Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, there will not even be the word "wholesome"—how much less, then, one who does what is wholesome? Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, those who show no due respect to mother, no due respect to father, no due respect to ascetics, no due respect to brahmins, and no deference to the elders of the family—it is they who will be honored and praised. Just as, bhikkhus, at present those who show due respect to mother, due respect to father, due respect to ascetics, due respect to brahmins, and deference to the elders of the family are honored and praised, so too, bhikkhus, among humans with a ten-year lifespan, those who show no due respect to mother, no due respect to father, no due respect to ascetics, no due respect to brahmins, and no deference to the elders of the family—it is they who will be honored and praised.
Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, there will be no [regard for the distinctions] "mother," or "mother's sister," or "father," or "father's sister," or "maternal uncle's wife," or "teacher's wife," or "wives of those deserving respect": the world will fall into promiscuous confusion, like goats and sheep, chickens, pigs, dogs, and jackals. Among humans with a ten-year lifespan, bhikkhus, acute hostility will be established in those beings toward one another—acute ill will (byāpāda), acute malevolence of mind, acute thoughts of murder: even in a mother toward her child, in a child toward its mother, in a father toward his child, in a child toward its father, in a brother toward his sister, in a sister toward her brother, acute hostility will be established—acute ill will, acute malevolence of mind, acute thoughts of murder. Just as, bhikkhus, in a deer-hunter, upon seeing a deer, acute hostility is established—acute ill will, acute malevolence of mind, acute thoughts of killing—so too, bhikkhus, among humans with a ten-year lifespan, acute hostility will be established in those beings toward one another—acute ill will, acute malevolence of mind, acute thoughts of murder: even in a mother toward her child, in a child toward its mother, in a father toward his child, in a child toward its father, in a brother toward his sister, in a sister toward her brother, acute hostility will be established—acute ill will, acute malevolence of mind, acute thoughts of murder.
