[109] "Thus indeed, Cunda, the exposition (pariyāya) on effacement (sallekha) has been taught by me; the exposition on the arising of thought (cittuppāda) has been taught; the exposition on bypassing has been taught; the exposition on going upward has been taught; the exposition on complete quenching (parinibbāna) has been taught. Cunda, whatever should be done by a teacher who seeks the welfare of his disciples, compassionate, out of compassion — that has been done for you by me. Here, Cunda, are these roots of trees; here are these empty dwellings. Meditate, Cunda; do not be negligent; do not be remorseful afterwards. This is our instruction to you."
Thus spoke the Blessed One. Pleased, the venerable Mahācunda rejoiced in the Blessed One's words.
Forty-four items have been stated; five junctures have been taught.
The discourse named Sallekha is deep, comparable to the ocean.
