[187] Sāriputta, there are some ascetics and brahmins who hold this doctrine, this view: 'Purity (suddhi) comes about through the round of rebirths (saṃsāra).' But, Sāriputta, it is not easy to find any round of rebirths through which I have not already wandered in this long stretch of time, except for the gods of the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa). And if, Sāriputta, I were to wander among the gods of the Pure Abodes, I would not come back to this world again.
