[208] Bhikkhus, whatever ascetics or brahmins do not understand, as it really is (yathābhūta), the gratification (assāda) of feelings (vedanā) as gratification, the danger (ādīnava) as danger, and the escape (nissaraṇa) as escape — that they themselves will fully understand feelings, or that they will enjoin another to such a state that, practicing accordingly, he will fully understand feelings: this is impossible. But, bhikkhus, whatever ascetics or brahmins do understand, as it really is, the gratification of feelings as gratification, the danger as danger, and the escape as escape — that they themselves will fully understand feelings, or that they will enjoin another to such a state that, practicing accordingly, he will fully understand feelings: this is indeed possible.
This is what the Blessed One said. Elated, those bhikkhus rejoiced in the Blessed One's words.
