[215] Furthermore, Mahānāma, with sensual pleasures as the cause, with sensual pleasures as the source, with sensual pleasures as the basis — the cause being simply sensual pleasures — having taken up sword and shield, and having girded on bow and quiver, they plunge into battle arrayed on both sides. With arrows being shot, with spears being hurled, and with swords flashing, there they are pierced by arrows, pierced by spears, and their heads are cut off by swords. There they incur death and also suffering (dukkha) that is deadly pain. This too, Mahānāma, is a drawback of sensual pleasures, visible in this very life, a mass of suffering — with sensual pleasures as the cause, with sensual pleasures as the source, with sensual pleasures as the basis — the cause being simply sensual pleasures.
