[218] Again, Mahānāma, with sensual pleasures as the cause, sensual pleasures as the source, sensual pleasures as the basis — simply on account of sensual pleasures — people conduct misconduct (duccarita) by body, conduct misconduct by speech, conduct misconduct by mind. Having conducted misconduct by body, having conducted misconduct by speech, having conducted misconduct by mind, with the breakup of the body, after death, they arise in a state of deprivation (apāya), a bad destination, a place of ruin, hell. This, Mahānāma, is a drawback (ādīnava) of sensual pleasures pertaining to the life to come — a mass of suffering (dukkha) with sensual pleasures as the cause, sensual pleasures as the source, sensual pleasures as the basis, simply on account of sensual pleasures.
