[302] Bhikkhus, among them, the first herd of deer encroached upon that seed (nivāpa) sown by the sower (nevāpika) and, infatuated, ate the food. Encroaching there and, infatuated, eating it, they fell into intoxication; being intoxicated, they fell into negligence; being negligent, they became such that the sower could do with them as he wished on account of that seed. Thus indeed, bhikkhus, that first herd of deer did not escape the power and might of the sower.
