[352] Thus, bhikkhus, this holy life (brahmacariya) does not have gain, honour, and fame as its benefit (ānisaṃsa), nor accomplishment in virtue (sīlasampadā) as its benefit, nor accomplishment in concentration (samādhi) as its benefit, nor knowledge and vision (ñāṇadassana) as its benefit; rather, bhikkhus, it is this unshakeable liberation of mind (akuppā cetovimutti) that is the goal of this holy life, bhikkhus; this is its heartwood (sāra); this is its consummation.
This is what the Blessed One said. Gladdened, those bhikkhus delighted in the Blessed One's words.
The Mahāsāropama Sutta, the ninth, is concluded.
