[363] "Venerable sir, here it occurs to me thus: 'It is a gain for me, it is truly well gained by me, that I dwell together with such companions in the holy life (sabrahmacārī).' Venerable sir, towards these venerable ones I maintain bodily action of loving-kindness (mettā), both openly and in private; I maintain verbal action of loving-kindness … mental action of loving-kindness towards them, both openly and in private. Venerable sir, it occurs to me thus: 'Why should I not set aside my own mind (citta) and proceed according to the mind of these venerable ones?' And so, venerable sir, I set aside my own mind and proceed according to the mind of these venerable ones. Venerable sir, our bodies are indeed different, but our mind, I think, is one."
The venerable Nandiya also … The venerable Kimila also said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, here it occurs to me too thus: 'It is a gain for me, it is truly well gained by me, that I dwell together with such companions in the holy life.' Thus, venerable sir, do we dwell in concord, in mutual appreciation, without dispute, blended like milk and water, regarding one another with eyes of affection."
