[366] Then the Blessed One, having instructed, urged, roused, and gladdened the venerable Anuruddha, the venerable Nandiya, and the venerable Kimila with a talk on the Dhamma, rose from his seat and departed. Then the venerable Anuruddha, the venerable Nandiya, and the venerable Kimila, having accompanied the Blessed One and turned back from there — the venerable Nandiya and the venerable Kimila said this to the venerable Anuruddha: "Did we ever report to the venerable Anuruddha thus: 'We are obtainers of these and those meditative abidings and attainments (vihārasamāpatti)' — such that the venerable Anuruddha declared it of us in the presence of the Blessed One, even up to the destruction of the taints (āsava)?"
"The venerables did not report to me thus: 'We are obtainers of these and those meditative abidings and attainments.' Rather, having encompassed the venerables' minds with my own mind, it was known to me: 'These venerables are obtainers of these and those meditative abidings and attainments.' Deities, too, reported this matter to me: 'These venerables are obtainers of these and those meditative abidings and attainments.' And that I declared when directly questioned on the matter by the Blessed One."
