[368] Thus, at that moment, at that instant, the sound was made known as far as the Brahmā world. "So it is, Dīgha, so it is, Dīgha! From whatever family (kula) these three clansmen went forth from the home life into homelessness — if that family should recollect these three clansmen with a confident mind (citta), that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of that family. From whatever family circle these three clansmen went forth from the home life into homelessness — if that family circle should recollect these three clansmen with a confident mind, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of that family circle. From whatever village these three clansmen went forth from the home life into homelessness — if that village should recollect these three clansmen with a confident mind, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of that village. From whatever town these three clansmen went forth from the home life into homelessness — if that town should recollect these three clansmen with a confident mind, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of that town. From whatever city these three clansmen went forth from the home life into homelessness — if that city should recollect these three clansmen with a confident mind, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of that city. From whatever country these three clansmen went forth from the home life into homelessness — if that country should recollect these three clansmen with a confident mind, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of that country. And if all the khattiyas should recollect these three clansmen with confident minds, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of all the khattiyas. And if all the brahmins … And if all the vessas … And if all the suddas should recollect these three clansmen with confident minds, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of all the suddas. And if the world with its devas, with its Māras, with its Brahmās, this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its devas and human beings, should recollect these three clansmen with a confident mind, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of the world with its devas, with its Māras, with its Brahmās, of this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its devas and human beings. See, Dīgha, how far these three clansmen are practicing for the welfare of the many, for the happiness of the many, out of compassion for the world, for the good, welfare, and happiness of devas and human beings."
Thus spoke the Blessed One. Delighted, the yakkha Dīgha Parajana rejoiced in the words of the Blessed One.
