[392] Thus have I heard. At one time the Blessed One was dwelling at Vesālī, in the Great Wood, in the hall with the peaked roof. Now at that time Saccaka, the son of a Nigaṇṭha (nigaṇṭhaputta), was residing in Vesālī — a debater (bhassappavādika), one who spoke claiming to be wise, esteemed as excellent by many people. He spoke thus in an assembly at Vesālī: "I do not see any ascetic or brahmin — whether a leader of an order, a leader of a group, a teacher of a group, or even one claiming to be an Arahant (arahanta), a Perfectly Awakened One (sammāsambuddha) — who, being engaged by me in debate, would not shake, would not quake, would not tremble, and from whose armpits sweat would not stream. Even if I were to engage a senseless post in debate, that post too, engaged by me in debate, would shake, quake, and tremble — what need is there to speak of a human being!"
