[40] Brahmin, this thought occurred to me: 'Whatever ascetics or brahmins there are who, desiring gain, honor, and fame, resort to remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest — because of the defect of desiring gain, honor, and fame, those worthy ascetics and brahmins surely summon unwholesome fear and dread. But I do not resort to remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest desiring gain, honor, and fame; I am one of few wishes. I am one of those noble ones who, being of few wishes, resort to remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest.' Seeing in myself this fewness of wishes, brahmin, I became even more at ease for dwelling in the forest.
