[474] Bhikkhus, furthermore, with the abandoning of pleasure and the abandoning of pain, and with the previous disappearance of joy and grief (somanassa-domanassa), a bhikkhu enters and dwells in the fourth jhāna, which is neither-painful-nor-pleasant and has purity of mindfulness by equanimity. He sits pervading this very body with a mind purified and bright, so that there is no part of his entire body unpervaded by the purified and bright mind. Bhikkhus, just as if a man were sitting covered from the head down with a white cloth, so that there would be no part of his entire body unpervaded by the white cloth—even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu sits pervading this very body with a mind purified and bright, so that there is no part of his entire body unpervaded by the purified and bright mind.
