[486] "Householders (gahapatayo), if one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct, should wish: 'Oh, that with the breaking up of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of affluent khattiyas (khattiyamahāsālā)!' — this is indeed a possibility: that with the breaking up of the body, after death, he might be reborn in the company of affluent khattiyas. For what reason? Because he is one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct. "Householders, if one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct, should wish: 'Oh, that with the breaking up of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of affluent brahmins … in the company of affluent householders!' — this is indeed a possibility: that with the breaking up of the body, after death, he might be reborn in the company of affluent householders. For what reason? Because he is one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct. "Householders, if one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct, should wish: 'Oh, that with the breaking up of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of the gods of the Four Great Kings (Cātummahārājikā)!' — this is indeed a possibility: that with the breaking up of the body, after death, he might be reborn in the company of the gods of the Four Great Kings. For what reason? Because he is one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct. "Householders, if one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct, should wish: 'Oh, that with the breaking up of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of the gods of the Thirty-three (Tāvatiṃsā) … the Yāma gods … the Tusita gods … the gods who delight in creation (Nimmānaratī) … the gods who wield power over the creations of others (Paranimmitavasavattī) … the gods of Brahmā's retinue (Brahmakāyikā)!' — this is indeed a possibility: that with the breaking up of the body, after death, he might be reborn in the company of the gods of Brahmā's retinue. For what reason? Because he is one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct. "Householders, if one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct, should wish: 'Oh, that with the breaking up of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of the Radiant gods (Ābhā)!' — this is indeed a possibility: that with the breaking up of the body, after death, he might be reborn in the company of the Radiant gods. For what reason? Because he is one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct. "Householders, if one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct, should wish: 'Oh, that with the breaking up of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of the gods of Limited Radiance (Parittābhā) … the gods of Measureless Radiance (Appamāṇābhā) … the gods of Streaming Radiance (Ābhassarā) … the gods of Limited Beauty (Parittasubhā) … the gods of Measureless Beauty (Appamāṇasubhā) … the gods of Refulgent Beauty (Subhakiṇhakā) … the gods of Great Fruit (Vehapphalā) … the Avihā gods … the Atappā gods … the Sudassā gods … the Sudassī gods … the Akaniṭṭha gods … the gods attained to the base of infinite space (ākāsānañcāyatanūpagā) … the gods attained to the base of infinite consciousness … the gods attained to the base of nothingness … the gods attained to the base of neither perception nor non-perception!' — this is indeed a possibility: that with the breaking up of the body, after death, he might be reborn in the company of the gods attained to the base of neither perception nor non-perception. For what reason? Because he is one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct. "Householders, if one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct, should wish: 'Oh, that by the destruction of the taints (āsava) I might realize for myself with direct knowledge, in this very life, the taintless liberation of mind and liberation by wisdom, and having entered upon them, might dwell therein!' — this is indeed a possibility: that by the destruction of the taints he might realize for himself with direct knowledge, in this very life, the taintless liberation of mind and liberation by wisdom, and having entered upon them, might dwell therein. For what reason? Because he is one who conducts himself by Dhamma, of even conduct."
