[523] Bhikkhus, there are these four ways of undertaking dhammas (dhammasamādāna). What four? There is, bhikkhus, the undertaking of dhammas that is both painful in the present and has suffering (dukkha) as its result (vipāka) in the future. There is, bhikkhus, the undertaking of dhammas that is pleasant in the present but has suffering as its result in the future. There is, bhikkhus, the undertaking of dhammas that is painful in the present but has pleasure as its result in the future. There is, bhikkhus, the undertaking of dhammas that is both pleasant in the present and has pleasure as its result in the future.
