[532] "Bhikkhus, suppose there were putrid urine mixed with various medicines. Then a man afflicted with jaundice would come along. They would say to him: 'Good man, this is putrid urine mixed with various medicines. Drink it if you wish. As you drink it, it will not please you by its color, or by its smell, or by its taste; but having drunk it, you will be well.' Having reflected upon it, he would drink it and would not reject it. And as he drank it, it would not please him by its color, or by its smell, or by its taste; but having drunk it, he would be well. Bhikkhus, I say that this way of undertaking things (dhammasamādāna) is comparable to that — namely, the way of undertaking things that is painful at present but has pleasure as its result (vipāka) in the future."
