[533] Bhikkhus, suppose there were curds, honey, ghee, and molasses mixed together into one. Then a man afflicted with bloody dysentery would come along. They would say to him: 'Good man, these are curds, honey, ghee, and molasses mixed together into one. Drink it if you wish. As you drink it, it will be agreeable in color, in aroma, and in taste, and having drunk it, you will be happy.' Having reflected upon it, he would drink it and would not reject it. As he drank it, it would be agreeable to him in color, in aroma, and in taste, and having drunk it, he would be happy. Bhikkhus, I say that this way of taking up practices (dhammasamādāna) is comparable to that — namely, the way of taking up practices that is pleasant in the present and ripens in future pleasure.
