[540] Thus have I heard. At one time the Blessed One was dwelling at Kosambī, in Ghosita's Park (Ghositārāma).
Now at that time the bhikkhus at Kosambī had taken to quarreling and contention, and had fallen into dispute, wounding one another with the weapons of the tongue; they could neither convince one another nor come to conviction, neither reconcile one another nor come to reconciliation.
Then a certain bhikkhu approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, that bhikkhu said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, here the bhikkhus at Kosambī have taken to quarreling and contention, and have fallen into dispute, wounding one another with the weapons of the tongue; they can neither convince one another nor come to conviction, neither reconcile one another nor come to reconciliation."
Then the Blessed One addressed a certain bhikkhu: "Come, bhikkhu, in my name summon those bhikkhus, saying: 'The Teacher summons the venerable ones.'"
"Yes, venerable sir," that bhikkhu replied to the Blessed One; and he approached those bhikkhus and, having approached, said to them: "The Teacher summons the venerable ones."
"Yes, friend," those bhikkhus replied to that bhikkhu; and they approached the Blessed One and, having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, sat down to one side.
