[557] Thus have I heard:
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling among the Bhaggas at Susumāragira, in the Deer Park in the Bhesakalā Grove.
Now on that occasion the venerable Mahāmoggallāna was walking back and forth in the open air. And on that occasion Māra the Evil One (pāpimā) had gone into the venerable Mahāmoggallāna's belly and entered his bowels. Then it occurred to the venerable Mahāmoggallāna: "Why now is my belly so very heavy? It seems as if it were filled with beans (māsācitaṃ)." Then the venerable Mahāmoggallāna descended from the walking path, entered the dwelling, and sat down on the seat that had been prepared. Having sat down, the venerable Mahāmoggallāna attended thoroughly (yoniso), within himself, to Māra the Evil One.
