[140] "Rāhula, develop meditation (bhāvanā) that is like the earth; for, Rāhula, when you develop meditation that is like the earth, agreeable and disagreeable contacts (phassa) that have arisen will not persist overwhelming the mind (citta). Just as, Rāhula, people throw clean things upon the earth, and throw unclean things, throw feces, throw urine, throw spittle, throw pus, and throw blood upon it, yet the earth is not distressed, humiliated, or disgusted on that account; even so, Rāhula, develop meditation that is like the earth; for, Rāhula, when you develop meditation that is like the earth, agreeable and disagreeable contacts that have arisen will not persist overwhelming the mind."
