Mahāmālukyasutta

Suttapiṭaka · Majjhimanikāya · Vol. 13 · Section 159

[159] "Venerable sir, if this is the path, this the way of practice, for the abandoning of the five lower fetters (orambhāgiyāni saṃyojanāni), then why is it that some bhikkhus here are liberated in mind (cetovimutti) while some bhikkhus are liberated by wisdom (paññāvimutti)?" "Herein, Ānanda, I declare it to be the difference in their faculties (indriya-vemattatā)." Thus spoke the Blessed One. Delighted, the venerable Ānanda rejoiced in the words of the Blessed One. The Mahāmāluṅkyovāda Sutta, the fourth, is finished. ____________________ [Note: Some editions read "ayampi kho."] The Bhaddāli Sutta
