[186] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Cātumā, in the Āmalakī Grove. Now on that occasion some five hundred bhikkhus, headed by Sāriputta and Moggallāna, had arrived at Cātumā to see the Blessed One. And those visiting bhikkhus, exchanging greetings with the resident bhikkhus, preparing lodgings, and putting away their bowls and robes, were loud and noisy. Then the Blessed One addressed the venerable Ānanda: "Ānanda, who are these people, so loud and noisy? One would think they were fishermen hauling in fish."
"Venerable sir, these are some five hundred bhikkhus, headed by Sāriputta and Moggallāna, who have arrived at Cātumā to see the Blessed One. Those visiting bhikkhus, exchanging greetings with the resident bhikkhus, preparing seats, and putting away their bowls and robes, are loud and noisy."
"Then, Ānanda, summon those bhikkhus in my name, saying: 'The Teacher calls the venerable ones.'"
"Yes, venerable sir," the venerable Ānanda replied to the Blessed One, and he approached those bhikkhus; having approached, he said to those bhikkhus: "The Teacher calls the venerable ones."
"Yes, friend," those bhikkhus replied to the venerable Ānanda, and they approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, they sat down to one side. When they were seated to one side, the Blessed One said to those bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, why are you so loud and noisy? One would think you were fishermen hauling in fish."
"Venerable sir, these are some five hundred bhikkhus, headed by Sāriputta and Moggallāna, who have arrived at Cātumā to see the Blessed One. These visiting bhikkhus, exchanging greetings with the resident bhikkhus, preparing lodgings, and putting away their bowls and robes, were loud and noisy."

"Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One, and rising from their seats, having paid homage to the Blessed One and circumambulated him keeping him on their right, they set the lodgings in order, took their bowls and robes, and departed.
