[201] "Here, Anuruddhas, a layman hears: 'The layman named so-and-so has died; he has been declared by the Blessed One thus: with the utter destruction of the five lower fetters (saṃyojana), he is spontaneously reborn and will attain final Nibbāna there, not subject to returning from that world.' And that venerable one has either been seen by him personally or heard of by report: 'That venerable one was of such virtue, that venerable one was of such qualities, that venerable one was of such wisdom, that venerable one was of such abiding, that venerable one was thus liberated.' Recollecting that layman's faith, virtue, learning, generosity, and wisdom, he directs his mind (citta) to that state. Thus too, Anuruddhas, a layman has a dwelling at ease.
Here, Anuruddhas, a layman hears: 'The layman named so-and-so has died; he has been declared by the Blessed One thus: with the utter destruction of three fetters and with the attenuation of lust, hatred, and delusion, he is a once-returner who, having come back to this world only once more, will make an end of suffering (dukkha).' And that venerable one has either been seen by him personally or heard of by report: 'That venerable one was of such virtue, of such qualities … of such wisdom … of such abiding … that venerable one was thus liberated.' Recollecting that layman's faith, virtue, learning, generosity, and wisdom, he directs his mind to that state. Thus too, Anuruddhas, a layman has a dwelling at ease.

Recollecting that layman's faith, virtue, learning, generosity, and wisdom, he directs his mind to that state. Thus too, Anuruddhas, a layman has a dwelling at ease.
