Suttapiṭaka · Majjhimanikāya · Vol. 13 · Section 212

[212] Friends, a forest-dwelling (āraññaka) bhikkhu should be one who knows moderation in food. If, friends, a forest-dwelling bhikkhu does not know moderation in food, there will be those who say of him: 'What is the point of this venerable forest-dweller's dwelling alone in the forest, living at his own free will, when this venerable one does not know moderation in food?'—there will be those who say this of him. Therefore a forest-dwelling bhikkhu should be one who knows moderation in food.
