[213] Friends, a forest-dwelling bhikkhu should be one devoted to wakefulness (jāgariyaṃ anuyutta). If, friends, a forest-dwelling bhikkhu is not devoted to wakefulness, there will be those who say of him: "What is the point of this venerable forest-dweller's dwelling alone in the wilderness at his own free will, since this venerable one is not devoted to wakefulness?" There will be those who say this of him. Therefore a forest-dwelling bhikkhu should be one devoted to wakefulness.
