[257] "Worthy Gotama, if the worthy Gotama alone had been one who succeeded (āraadhaka) in this Dhamma, and the bhikkhus had not been ones who succeeded, then this holy life (brahmacariya) would have been incomplete in that respect. But because, worthy Gotama, both the worthy Gotama is one who has succeeded in this Dhamma and the bhikkhus are ones who have succeeded, this holy life is complete in that respect. If, worthy Gotama, both the worthy Gotama had been one who succeeded in this Dhamma and the bhikkhus had been ones who succeeded, but the bhikkhunīs had not been ones who succeeded, then this holy life would have been incomplete in that respect. But because, worthy Gotama, the worthy Gotama is one who has succeeded in this Dhamma, and the bhikkhus are ones who have succeeded, and the bhikkhunīs are ones who have succeeded, this holy life is complete in that respect."
