[260] Not long after his full ordination — having been ordained a half-month — the Venerable Vacchagotta approached the Blessed One; having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Seated to one side, the Venerable Vacchagotta said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, whatever is to be attained by the knowledge (ñāṇa) of a trainee (sekha), by the true knowledge of a trainee, that has been attained by me. May the Blessed One teach me the Dhamma further."
"Then, Vaccha, develop two things further: serenity (samatha) and insight (vipassanā). Vaccha, when these two things — serenity and insight — have been developed further, they will lead to the penetration of many elements (dhātu)."
