[263] "Vaccha, in so far as you shall wish: 'May I understand the minds (citta) of other beings, of other persons, having encompassed them with my own mind (citta) — may I understand a mind with lust (sarāga) as "a mind with lust," or a mind free from lust as "a mind free from lust"; may I understand a mind with hatred as "a mind with hatred," or a mind free from hatred as "a mind free from hatred"; may I understand a mind with delusion as "a mind with delusion," or a mind free from delusion as "a mind free from delusion"; may I understand a contracted mind as "a contracted mind," or a distracted mind as "a distracted mind"; may I understand an exalted mind as "an exalted mind," or an unexalted mind as "an unexalted mind"; may I understand a surpassable mind as "a surpassable mind," or an unsurpassable mind as "an unsurpassable mind"; may I understand a concentrated (samāhita) mind as "a concentrated mind," or an unconcentrated mind as "an unconcentrated mind"; may I understand a liberated mind as "a liberated mind," or an unliberated mind as "an unliberated mind"' — in each and every case you shall attain the capability of realizing it, whenever there is a suitable basis."
