[329] "There are, Udāyī, five other qualities (dhammā) on account of which my disciples honor, respect, esteem, and venerate me, and, honoring and respecting me, dwell in dependence on me. What five?
"Here, Udāyī, my disciples esteem me for the higher virtue (adhisīla): 'The ascetic Gotama is virtuous; he is endowed with the supreme aggregate of virtue (sīlakkhandha).' Since, Udāyī, my disciples esteem me for the higher virtue thus: 'The ascetic Gotama is virtuous; he is endowed with the supreme aggregate of virtue' — this, Udāyī, is the first quality on account of which my disciples honor, respect, esteem, and venerate me, and, honoring and respecting me, dwell in dependence on me."
