[330] "Furthermore, Udāyī, my disciples esteem me for excellent knowledge (ñāṇa) and vision (ñāṇadassana): 'The ascetic Gotama, only when knowing, says "I know"; only when seeing, says "I see." The ascetic Gotama teaches the Dhamma from direct knowledge (abhiññā), not without direct knowledge; the ascetic Gotama teaches the Dhamma with a basis, not without a basis; the ascetic Gotama teaches the Dhamma in a convincing manner, not in an unconvincing manner.' In that, Udāyī, my disciples esteem me for excellent knowledge and vision: 'The ascetic Gotama, only when knowing, says "I know"; only when seeing, says "I see." The ascetic Gotama teaches the Dhamma from direct knowledge, not without direct knowledge; the ascetic Gotama teaches the Dhamma with a basis, not without a basis; the ascetic Gotama teaches the Dhamma in a convincing manner, not in an unconvincing manner' — this, Udāyī, is the second quality because of which my disciples honor, respect, revere, and venerate me; and having honored and respected me, they live in dependence upon me."
