[348] Furthermore, Udāyi, I have declared to my disciples the way of practice, practicing in accordance with which my disciples create from this body another body — possessed of form, mind-made, complete in all its major and minor limbs, not deficient in any faculty. Udāyi, just as a man might draw a reed out from muñja grass, and it would occur to him thus: 'This is the reed, this is the muñja grass; the muñja grass is one thing, the reed is another; it is from the muñja grass that the reed has been drawn out.' Or again, Udāyi, just as a man might draw a sword out from its scabbard, and it would occur to him thus: 'This is the sword, this is the scabbard; the sword is one thing, the scabbard is another; it is from the scabbard that the sword has been drawn out.' Or again, Udāyi, just as a man might pull a snake out from its slough, and it would occur to him thus: 'This is the snake, this is the slough; the snake is one thing, the slough is another; it is from the slough that the snake has been pulled out.' Even so, Udāyi, I have declared to my disciples the way of practice, practicing in accordance with which my disciples create from this body another body — possessed of form, mind-made, complete in all its major and minor limbs, not deficient in any faculty.
And therein many of my disciples abide, having attained the consummation and perfection of direct knowledge (abhiññā).
