[369] "Venerable sir, let that talk stand aside — the talk over which we were just now sitting together; that talk will not be hard for the Blessed One to hear even afterwards. Venerable sir, when I have not approached this assembly, this assembly sits talking about many kinds of low talk (tiracchānakathā); but when I have approached this assembly, this assembly sits gazing at my face alone, thinking, 'Whatever Dhamma the ascetic Udāyī will speak to us, that we shall hear.' But, venerable sir, when the Blessed One has approached this assembly, then both I and this assembly sit gazing at the face of the Blessed One, thinking, 'Whatever Dhamma the Blessed One will speak to us, that we shall hear.'"
"Then, Udāyī, let something occur to you here, in such a way that it may occur to me [to speak]."
