[390] Standing to one side, the wanderer Vekhanasa uttered this inspired utterance (udāna) in the presence of the Blessed One: "This is the ultimate splendor! This is the ultimate splendor!"
"But why, Kaccāna, do you speak thus: 'This is the ultimate splendor, this is the ultimate splendor'? What is that ultimate splendor?"
"Worthy Gotama, that splendor (vaṇṇa) than which there is no other splendor higher or more sublime — that is the ultimate splendor."
"But which, Kaccāna, is that splendor than which there is no other splendor higher or more sublime?"
"Worthy Gotama, that splendor than which there is no other splendor higher or more sublime — that is the ultimate splendor."
