[399] When this was said, the wanderer Vekhanasa said to the Blessed One: "It is wonderful, Master Gotama! It is marvellous, Master Gotama! How well this has been spoken by Master Gotama: 'From sensual pleasures (kāma) comes sensual pleasure (kāmasukha); but beyond sensual pleasure there is the pleasure at the peak of the sensual (kāmaggasukha), and that is declared the foremost therein.'"
"Kaccāna, this is hard for you to know — sensual pleasures, or sensual pleasure, or the pleasure at the peak of the sensual — you who hold another view, who accept another teaching, who approve of another teaching, who are engaged in a different pursuit, who follow a different teacher's discipline. Kaccāna, those bhikkhus who are arahants, whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, who have lived the life fulfilled, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, reached their own true goal, utterly destroyed the fetters (saṃyojana) of existence, and are liberated through right final knowledge — it is they who would know this: sensual pleasures, or sensual pleasure, or the pleasure at the peak of the sensual."
