[413] Then, Ānanda, Ghaṭikāra the potter and Jotipāla the student approached the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One; having approached, they paid homage to the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One, and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, Ānanda, Ghaṭikāra the potter said this to the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One: "Venerable sir, this Jotipāla the student is my friend, my dear friend. May the Blessed One give him the going forth." And, Ānanda, Jotipāla the student received the going forth (pabbajjā), received the higher ordination (upasampadā), in the presence of the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One. Then, Ānanda, when Jotipāla the student had not long been ordained—a fortnight after his higher ordination—the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One, having dwelt at Vebhaḷiga as long as he pleased, set out wandering toward Bārāṇasī; and wandering by stages, he arrived at Bārāṇasī.
