[418] "On one occasion, great king, I was staying at the market town named Vebhaḷiga. Then, great king, in the morning, having dressed and taken my bowl and robe, I approached the mother and father of Ghaṭikāra the potter; having approached, I said to the mother and father of Ghaṭikāra the potter: 'Now then, where has this Bhaggava gone?'
"'Venerable sir, your attendant has gone out. But take rice from this pot, take curry from the pan, and eat.'
"Then, great king, I took rice from the pot, took curry from the pan, ate, rose from my seat, and departed. Then, great king, Ghaṭikāra the potter approached his mother and father; having approached, he said to his mother and father: 'Who took rice from the pot, took curry from the pan, ate, rose from the seat, and departed?'
"'Dear son, it was the Blessed One Kassapa, the Accomplished One (arahaṃ), the Perfectly Awakened One (sammāsambuddha), who took rice from the pot, took curry from the pan, ate, rose from the seat, and departed.'
"Then, great king, it occurred to Ghaṭikāra the potter: 'It is a gain for me, it is well gained by me, that the Blessed One Kassapa, the Accomplished One, the Perfectly Awakened One, is so intimately trusting toward me!' Then, great king, rapture (pīti) and happiness did not leave Ghaṭikāra the potter for a fortnight, nor his mother and father for seven days."
