[574] Then King Pasenadi of Kosala said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, I have heard this: 'The ascetic Gotama speaks thus: "There is no ascetic or brahmin who will claim to be all-knowing and all-seeing, with knowledge and vision (ñāṇadassana) without remainder; this is not possible."' Venerable sir, do those who speak thus — 'The ascetic Gotama speaks thus: "There is no ascetic or brahmin who will claim to be all-knowing and all-seeing, with knowledge and vision without remainder; this is not possible"' — speak in accordance with what has been said by the Blessed One? Do they not misrepresent the Blessed One with what is untrue? Do they explain in accordance with the Dhamma, so that no legitimate consequence of their assertion incurs ground for censure?"
"Great king, those who speak thus — 'The ascetic Gotama speaks thus: "There is no ascetic or brahmin who will claim to be all-knowing and all-seeing, with knowledge and vision without remainder; this is not possible"' — do not speak in accordance with what I have said; rather, they misrepresent me with what is baseless and untrue."
