[595] Then it occurred to the Blessed One: "This brahmin Brahmāyu sees on my body the thirty-two marks of a great man for the most part, all except two; concerning two marks of a great man he doubts, is uncertain, is not resolved, and is not confident: about the male organ being enclosed in a sheath, and about the largeness of the tongue." Then the Blessed One performed such a feat of psychic power (iddhābhisaṅkhāra) that the brahmin Brahmāyu saw the Blessed One's male organ enclosed in a sheath. Then the Blessed One, extending his tongue, touched and stroked both ear openings, touched and stroked both nostrils, and covered the entire circle of his forehead with his tongue. Then the Blessed One addressed the brahmin Brahmāyu in verses:
"The thirty-two marks of a great man
that you have heard of —
they are all upon my body;
have no doubt, brahmin.
What should be directly known has been directly known,
what should be developed has been developed,
and what should be abandoned has been abandoned by me;
therefore, brahmin, I am a Buddha.
For your welfare and benefit in this present life
and for happiness in the life to come,
the opportunity has been granted you: ask
whatever you desire."
