[598] When this was said, the brahmin Brahmāyu rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, and, bowing with his head at the Blessed One's feet, kissed the Blessed One's feet with his mouth and stroked them with his hands, announcing his name: "I am Brahmāyu the brahmin, worthy Gotama! I am Brahmāyu the brahmin, worthy Gotama!" Then that assembly was filled with wonder and amazement: "It is wonderful indeed, sirs! It is marvelous indeed, sirs — the great power and great majesty of the ascetic, in that this brahmin Brahmāyu, so well-known and famous, should show such supreme homage!" Then the Blessed One said to the brahmin Brahmāyu: "Enough, brahmin. Rise, and sit on your own seat, since your mind (citta) has confidence in me." Then the brahmin Brahmāyu rose and sat on his own seat.
