[616] "But, Assalāyana, the brahmin women of the brahmins are seen menstruating, pregnant, giving birth, and giving suck; and yet those brahmins, being themselves born from the womb, say thus: 'Only brahmins are the best class (vaṇṇa); any other class is inferior. Only brahmins are the fair class; any other class is dark. Only brahmins are purified, not non-brahmins. Only brahmins are the true-born sons of Brahmā, born from his mouth, born of Brahmā, created by Brahmā, heirs of Brahmā.'"
"Though the worthy Gotama says thus, still herein the brahmins think thus: 'Only brahmins are the best class … heirs of Brahmā.'"
