[681] "What do you think, Dhanañjāni? Suppose someone here were to conduct himself contrary to the Dhamma, to conduct himself unrighteously, for the sake of guests, and on account of that conduct contrary to the Dhamma, that unrighteous conduct, the wardens of hell were to drag him off to hell. Would he obtain his wish by pleading: 'It was for the sake of guests that I conducted myself contrary to the Dhamma, conducted myself unrighteously; let not the wardens of hell drag me to hell'? Or would his guests obtain their wish by pleading: 'It was for our sake that he conducted himself contrary to the Dhamma, conducted himself unrighteously; let not the wardens of hell drag him to hell'?"
"Not so, worthy Sāriputta. Rather, even as he wailed, the wardens of hell would cast him down into hell."
