[697] "Yes, venerable sir," that man replied to the brahmin Dhanañjāni, and he approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down at one side. Seated at one side, that man said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, the brahmin Dhanañjāni is afflicted, in pain, gravely ill. He pays homage with his head at the feet of the Blessed One."
Then he approached the Venerable Sāriputta; having approached and paid homage to the Venerable Sāriputta, he sat down at one side. Seated at one side, that man said to the Venerable Sāriputta: "Venerable sir, the brahmin Dhanañjāni is afflicted, in pain, gravely ill. He pays homage with his head at the feet of the Venerable Sāriputta, and he says thus: 'It would be good, venerable sir, if the Venerable Sāriputta would approach the residence of the brahmin Dhanañjāni, out of compassion (anukampā).'"
The Venerable Sāriputta consented by remaining silent.
